What is counselling?

Counselling offers a calm, supportive space where you can talk openly about what you’re experiencing, feel genuinely heard and begin to make sense of thoughts, feelings or experiences that may feel difficult to manage on your own.

I understand that our experiences can shape the way we see ourselves, our relationships and the world around us. Sometimes the impact of difficult or traumatic experiences can continue to affect us long after the original events have passed. At other times, we may simply find ourselves struggling with anxiety, low mood, overwhelm, loss, relationships or changes in our lives without fully understanding why.

I won’t tell you what you should do or make assumptions about what is right for you. Instead, we can gently explore whatever you choose to bring to our sessions, taking the time to understand your experiences and what they mean to you.

You remain in control of the pace and direction of our work. I believe feeling safe, respected and able to make your own choices is an important part of counselling, and I will work with you in a way that feels manageable and appropriate for where you are.

You will be listened to with care, compassion and without judgement. My aim is to offer a consistent and trusting relationship where you can be yourself, explore what feels difficult or unclear, develop greater self-understanding and begin to reconnect with your own strengths and sense of direction.

How I can help.

I offer counselling for adults and young people, supporting you with things such as:

🌿 Anxiety.

🌿 Depression

🌿 Stress and feeling overwhelmed

🌿 Grief, loss and bereavement

🌿 Difficult or traumatic life experiences

🌿 Feeling stuck, lost or at a crossroads

🌿 Low self-esteem, confidence and self-worth

🌿 Relationship or family difficulties

🌿 Major life changes and uncertainty

🌿 Feeling emotionally exhausted or simply not yourself

🌿 Understanding yourself and your experiences more deeply

You don’t need to have a clear explanation for how you’re feeling, or know exactly what you want from counselling. If something feels difficult, confusing or hard to put into words, you are welcome to bring it along. We can start from wherever you are.

What to Expect.

Sessions last one hour and take place online. We usually meet weekly, although the frequency of sessions can be discussed depending on your individual circumstances and what feels right for you.

You decide what you want to bring to each session. There is no agenda, and you don’t need to have everything worked out beforehand. You might arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about, or simply knowing that something doesn’t feel right. Either is completely okay.

Our time together is confidential and centred around you. My aim is to offer a consistent, trusting and supportive relationship where you can talk openly, feel heard and explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences without judgement or pressure.

As a trauma-informed counsellor, I am mindful of the importance of emotional safety and stability. We won’t rush into anything you’re not ready to explore. Sometimes it may feel helpful to spend time understanding what is happening for you in the present, building a sense of safety and finding ways to feel more grounded. At other times, you may want to explore experiences from your past and the impact they continue to have on you.

You remain in control of what you share and the pace of our work. My role is to walk alongside you with empathy, care and respect, helping you make sense of your experiences and reconnect with your own strengths and sense of direction.

Counselling isn't suitable for everyone or every situation. If you're experiencing an immediate crisis or are at significant risk of harm, counselling may not provide the level of support you need. If you're unsure whether counselling is appropriate for you, please contact me and we can discuss this.
